Room area is only the starting point.
Different laminate products cover different areas per pack. This calculator uses the recorded coverage of each product, so two floors for the same room can require different numbers of packs.
Round up to the next whole pack.
A worked example
For a room measuring 5 m × 4 m, the area is 20 m². An illustrative 10% allowance increases the target to 22 m². If a pack covers 2 m², you need 11 packs. If another product covers 1.8 m², you need 13 packs, providing 23.4 m². These pack sizes illustrate the method; the results above use recorded product sizes.
Measure an irregular room in sections
Split an L-shaped room into rectangles, measure each section and add it separately. Sections must not overlap. Include every part you intend to cover and check the dimensions before ordering. The calculator does not design a board layout or model the position of individual cuts.
Choose a waste allowance for your layout
The starting 10% is an adjustable planning assumption. Your room shape, laying direction, pattern and installer’s method can change the allowance. Check the instructions for your selected product; a herringbone layout should not inherit an allowance just because it worked for straight planks.
What is included in the price?
Each material subtotal multiplies whole packs by the recorded pack price. When you include underlay, it is calculated separately using its own roll or pack coverage. Delivery, labour, trims, tape, additional membranes and subfloor preparation are outside that subtotal.
Common questions
Can I buy exactly the room’s area?
Stores generally sell the recorded product in complete packs. We round up and apply any recorded minimum or increment, which may leave spare material.
Does laminate with attached underlay need another layer?
The planner omits separate underlay when the product records a built-in layer. Confirm the manufacturer’s installation requirements, including any separate moisture protection, before buying.
Are these today’s prices?
Every offer shows when it was recorded. The calculator excludes snapshots older than seven days and products without explicit availability. The merchant confirms the final price and stock at checkout.
